WATCHET MARINA, LOOKING BACK TOWARDS TOWN

The Chalet

The Chalet is all on one level and would be suitable for those with limited mobility. A car can be parked right next to the entrance.

The shower-room/WC is compact, so would not be adequate for those needing full wheelchair access.

Sockets and light switches are accessible, being at the new regulatory height. The open-plan nature of the chalet means that the general living area/bedroom is uncluttered.

The microwave usually lives on a shelf in the kitchen area, but this can be moved if it is needed at a lower level.

As Blue Anchor is extremely dog-friendly, this would be an ideal spot for someone with a guide dog who needs some time off!

Access to the promenade along the front of Blue Anchor Beach is up a slope from the chalet. A wide, flat pavement then runs for about a mile.

Access to the West Somerset Railway station is possible from the chalet, with slopes to the platforms. Trains have ramp access to some carriages for wheelchairs.

The local general store, café, farm shop and pubs have sloped access.

Looking at the Visit Britain information, it would seem that Mobility 2 would be the correct category for the chalet.

The Flat

The flat in on the first floor. The fully carpeted stairs do have a handrail either side, but this property may not be suitable for people who find stairs difficult.

Once in the Flat, access is good. There is plenty of space and there is a double-sized shower (1200 x 650 mm).

Wheelchair access outside the flat is good. It is possible to park a car right by the door to load and unload, with the car park 20 yards away. There is easy access to the town centre, the Esplanade, the East and West Quay, West Street Beach, the Memorial Ground and Watchet’s West Somerset Railway Station. The trains carry ramps.

Watchet is quite wheelchair user-friendly, and there are ramps where required and many interesting and accessible places to enjoy.
