Children welcome
Young children will love Blue Anchor. The beach is right outside the Chalet and stretches for miles. There is some really good sand when the tide drops back a bit. In Watchet, they can enjoy the small West Beach with its sea-water paddling pool, and the Marina, both within a few minutes’ walk of the Flat.
On the doorsteps…
West Somerset Railway runs steam trains several times a day for most of the year (plus a few diesels, but they don’t count in my book!). Blue Anchor Station is a few yards from the Chalet, and Watchet Station is about 5 minutes’ walk from the Flat. Lovely old trains take you as far as Bishop’s Lydeard near Taunton, or via Dunster to Minehead.
A few minutes’ walk from the Chalet is the Blue Anchor Hoburne holiday park. For a few pounds, you can use the indoor pool or crazy golf course. There is also a free kids’ playground:
Watchet has Tropiquaria nearby, with something for all the family. The fossil beach at Donniford is a short walk away, with some tricky steps to clamber down... and keep an eye on the tide! The Memorial Ground is near the Station and has a great playground and range of sports pitches.
Many cafes and pubs in the area cater for all the family. In Blue Anchor, the Driftwood café is a minute away and Home Farm, towards the other end of Blue Anchor beach, has all sorts for everyone; loads of animals, a tea room and a fabulous farm shop with loads of local produce. In Watchet, the Star Inn, Pebbles Bistro and many other places welcome young visitors, and Chives serves some smashing ice creams and delicatessen goodies.
A bit farther out…
Dunster – historic village and castle.
Minehead – classic seaside town with many shops, cafes and amusements plus a Lifeboat station. Butlins is in Minehead, and they do day passes for the family.
At the Chalet…
The simple design of the Chalet makes it ideal for young families. The living room/bedroom is spacious and there is a small, enclosed paved area just outside the patio doors. The dining table and benches give plenty of room for indoor activities, and there is a TV with DVD player when all other ideas have dried up! There are a few books, games, DVDs and CDs in the cupboard.
At the Flat...
The Flat has plenty of room, so there’s plenty of space if the children need a day indoors, or if you need to bring a travel cot... On the practical side, there’s a washer/drier, plus
TV, DVD player, free-view set-top box, and a selection of books and games. The shops are seconds away if new kit is needed!
And then there’s the beach…just a few feet from the patio doors…
