BLUE ANCHOR AREA

Blue Anchor itself

West Somerset Railway – take the steam trains as far as Bishop’s Lydeard near Taunton, or to Minehead. Cream tea specials, Gala weekends and loads more.

2 pubs - The Smugglers Inn has great, freshly cooked food, served in cosy interior or pleasant garden; Blue Anchor serves food all day.

Driftwood Café – really lovely home-made meals and snacks. Great for a cooked breakfast overlooking the sea. They also stock frozen fishing bait.

Indoor swimming pool, plus crazy golf & kids’ playground, at the Hoburne caravan park a few minutes’ walk away.

Newly refurbished 2008, a general store selling everything from milk and newspapers to beach toys, also on the Hoburne site.

Home Farm – small working farm with many animals, a farm shop with great local meats, jams etc, a tea room serving wonderful home-made cakes and cream teas, & hands-on farm trail.

Nearby

Watchet – 3 ½  miles away, port town with 1000 years of history, famous for links with the Ancient Mariner. Lovely esplanade and Marina from where you can go out on a yacht or a fishing boat.  Watchet Carnival here in July and August. Chives Deli  and Pebbles Bistro are brilliant. Excellent pubs and cafes.

Dunster – medieval village and castle. Picturesque gem.

Minehead – old Victorian seaside resort, lovely views and harbour as well as shops, cafes, pubs, Butlins and amusement arcades. Don’s Mill in Mart Road, an Aladdin’s cave of fabrics.

A little farther out…

Exmoor, the Quantocks, Brendon Hills – great for exploring on foot or by car.

Porlock, Lynton & Lynmouth -  dramatic coastal treasures, well worth a day out. Steep hills!

Taunton, Exeter - great for shopping, theatres and cinemas.

North Devon – Barnstaple, Ilfracombe, Bideford.
